VAT Pilot

Returning VAT support to listed buildings has been a long term goal for the Club ever since 2012. Responses for government have been lukewarm over the past few years, with little urgency shown even as Historic England supported the idea before the 2021 budget.

Despite the wheels of government turning slowly, there is still some movement in this direction. The present focus is on proving that a VAT reduction would actually support the kind of positive ownership that the Club and the Government want to encourage. To do that, the government are planning a trial of VAT reduction in a smaller area to study what works are covered and whether the numbers increase.

Despite being slow, this is still a positive step. As the trial scheme develops we will keep all members updated, and hopefully enable any local residents to take advantage of the scheme and demonstrate the value of a VAT cut.
