The club regularly receives requests for suitable mortgage suppliers and we happily pass these enquiries on to specialist companies although realistically there is no reason not to use any high street provider. The problems usually stem from the surveyors that these companies use. For example they will highlight the fact the building has no damp proof course or has been constructed with “unusual” materials. The mortgage provider will then demand a chemical injected damp proofing before releasing funds and unfortunately these injections are not suitable for the majority of period houses and can cause very extensive damage.
In our view it makes sense to turn to the specialists companies in the first place. They are no more expensive; they understand the problems and will always use surveyors that are experienced with period homes.
