The Old Chapel is a spacious Cotswold stone cottage in the peaceful historic village of Buckland. The sixteenth century building (one of the oldest houses in Buckland) was, with the adjoining house, originally a Tudor manor house. The Old Chapel has a passageway with a wooden Tudor arch between the two houses, which would have formed the entrance to both sides of the original building. One side was converted into a Baptist chapel in the late eighteenth century. The chapel, and a small cottage that had been built on to the rear wall by the Baptists, was converted back into a dwelling in the 1970s. The Old Chapel and adjoining Somerset Cottage was given grade two listed building status in 1986. The front and rear walls of the chapel are between 2ft and 3ft thick at the base and are the original walls of the sixteenth century manor house. They keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.

The inviting hallway with stained glass window leads to a double height sitting room with magnificent Tudor fireplace. A woodburning stove is set into the hearth.  The dining room leads off and beyond it is a kitchen with a pantry.  The dining room leads out to a patio and mature garden through trifold patio doors There is also a utility room and WC on the ground floor. The first-floor galleried landing leads to three bedrooms, one with en-suite plus a family bathroom. The atmospheric bedroom with ensuite at the end of the gallery was created in the upstairs room and stairwell of the old cottage. The room has a massive, exposed ceiling beam, probably repurposed from a farm building, and the stone surround of the cottage’s hearth and chimney.  On the second floor there is a light filled principal bedroom, featuring exposed beams. Leading off, there is an en-suite shower room, a walk-in wardrobe and an attic storage space.

The gardens of The Old Chapel continue to the rear of two thatched cottages next door, both listed buildings. A path leads from the garden at the rear of the house to a drive and a large, windowed garage now used as a studio and a workshop. A small, secluded garden behind the garage has wide views over a neighbouring paddock. A greenhouse, flower beds, fruit bushes and raised vegetable beds run between the side of the garage and the paddock fence. The cottage next door has shared access and parking on the driveway. The Old Chapel and its surroundings are part of the Buckland Conservation area which includes practically the whole of the village

Buckland is a small and picturesque village in Oxfordshire, located about 4 miles (6 km) northeast of the market town of Faringdon and roughly 8 miles (13 km) west of Wantage. It sits in the Vale of White Horse, surrounded by countryside and farmland. The village has a strong community feel with a historic church, a lively village hall, local events, a popular pub, a primary school and good local amenities. It benefits from good road links via the A420, with access to Oxford, Swindon, and beyond.
