Buildings in Need of Repair and for Sale
In this new feature for 2018, The Listed Property Owners’ Club has teamed up with Historic England and SAVE Britain’s Heritage to bring visitors to the show a compelling gallery of images. The gallery will depict listed buildings that have fallen into a state of disrepair but are now looking for new owners to give them a renewed lease of life. It will highlight the plight of some of the UK’s historic housing stock that is at risk of demolition but could make the perfect fixer-upper!
Exhibitors & Demonstrations
Over 150 of the countries leading experts will be at the show to give advice and guidance. Many will be giving practical demonstrations including plaster and lead work, window restoration, lime mortar, master carvers, brickwork and paint. Other exhibitors includes Historic England, architectural historians as well as many commercial suppliers of products particularly suitable for period homes
Peter Bell, LPOC’s Conservation Advisor, will lead a team of of independent conservation officers within the exhibition who will happily discuss any plans you may have for altering or extending your property. We all know the process of obtaining permission for such work can be very lengthy and a free one-to-one conversation will help you better understand the obligations and requirements. Remember to bring plenty of photographs and sketches of your property with you.
Alongside these officers will be a wide range of very experienced and competent RIBA registered architects all with the expertise and experience to develop your plans to fruition.
The only financial aid given by central government to owners of listed buildings came via VAT. In simple terms, an alteration to a listed building for which listed building consent has been granted did not attract VAT. Unfortunately this rule was changed in the 2012 budget. Under certain circumstances there are savings still available for owners.
The understanding of this law is rather complicated but Dave Brown, LPOC’s VAT Advisor, will be available for free one-to-one discussions to guide you through this process.
The Club’s insurance suppliers have been particularly successful in creating a range of policies specifically designed for this market including protection from under valuation, unauthorised work by previous owners and the introduction of a thatch monitoring system.

LPOC’s Political Campaign for Owners
The Campaign for Owners is an ongoing crusade by The Listed Property Owners’ Club to help owners of listed buildings and draw attention to the issues surrounding listed property ownership. The 2018 Listed Property Show is an ideal opportunity for all those who live day to day with the high costs and challenges of maintaining a cherished home to express their views to the MPs who have signed up to support them.
