We will cover the nature and causes of dampness together with its diagnosis, control and prevention in buildings predating 1919. Addressing the unnecessary treatments that are often carried out, including the insertion of damp-proof membranes to create barriers to moisture. Find out how actions to address basic maintenance or lifestyle issues are usually more appropriate, as well as measures that respect the need for old buildings to ‘breathe’. How to accurately diagnose damp and the range of methods suitable for its control. Plus the common structural problems faced with historic buildings including timber infestation, decay, overloading, poorly considered alterations, and inappropriate use of materials for repairs. Solutions will be set out in relation to different construction types.

The Masterclass and Workshops will also be relevant to professionals who may need to brief their clients on understanding their building. LPOC is an IHBC-recognised CPD provider and certificates of attendance are available on request.
